We answer support email at support@velamail.app. Most questions get a reply within one business day.
Before mailing, here are the things people ask about most:
How do I add a Gmail account?
Open Vela, tap the avatar in the top-right, then Add account. Pick Gmail and sign in with Google. Vela uses Google's official OAuth flow — your password never touches the app, and you can revoke access at any time through myaccount.google.com/permissions.
If you see "Vela Mail has not completed Google verification": we're in the verification queue with Google. Reply to support@velamail.app with your Gmail address and we'll add you to the test-users list while we wait for the queue to clear.
How do I add an Outlook or Microsoft 365 account?
Same flow — pick Microsoft. Vela uses Microsoft's standard OAuth flow via Microsoft Graph. Personal accounts (@outlook.com, @hotmail.com, @live.com) and work / school accounts both work.
How do I add an iCloud Mail account?
iCloud Mail uses an app-specific password, not OAuth.
- Go to appleid.apple.com and sign in.
- Under Sign-In and Security → App-Specific Passwords, generate a new password labeled "Vela".
- In Vela, tap Add account → iCloud, enter your iCloud email and the app-specific password (not your Apple ID password).
How do I add a generic IMAP / SMTP server?
Tap Add account → IMAP. Vela will ask for your server addresses, ports, and credentials. We support TLS / STARTTLS on both ports. If you don't know your settings, your provider's documentation usually has them.
How do I cancel Vela+?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple. On your device, Settings → Apple ID (your name at the top) → Subscriptions → Vela+ → Cancel Subscription. The current period continues until the next renewal date.
How do I get a refund?
Refunds for Apple in-app purchases go through Apple. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com, find the Vela+ charge, and follow the refund flow. Apple decides whether to grant the refund — Vela has no direct control.
Why isn't sync picking up new mail?
- Pull down on any thread list to force a sync. The header strap shows "Updated X ago" once it lands.
- Check Settings → Accounts. If you see a "Reconnect" badge next to an account, your OAuth token expired — tap to re-sign in.
- If the issue persists, mail support@velamail.app with the account provider (Gmail / Outlook / IMAP) and roughly when sync stopped.
How do I delete all my data?
Two ways:
- Settings → Accounts, tap each account, sign out — this removes that account's mail from the device.
- Delete the Vela app from your home screen — iOS removes the entire local store.
Vela has no servers that store your mail, so disconnecting locally is sufficient. Your provider still has your mail; if you want to delete that too, do it through your provider's web UI.
Where is my mail stored?
On your device, encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM. The full details are in the Privacy Promise.
Can I help test Vela before it ships?
Yes. Email support@velamail.app with the subject "TestFlight" and your Apple ID's email. We'll add you to the public TestFlight beta when it opens.
